After much deliberation (and soul searching!), we have decided to close the resort / tourist side of the business and to turn the whole operation into an expanded outdoor education facility. This will come into effect from September 2018.
For several years now, the nature of tourism to the north has changed, and we have seen a distinct decline in bookings with the result that the resort side of the business is only just breaking even yet absorbs a great deal of resources.
At the same time, we have often been unable to accept requests for student places as we are full during key months of the year. We have also been unable to accept bookings from schools which wanted to bring numbers which exceeded our current capacity.
Finally, we are aware that when we have several student groups here at the same time, it can seem a little crowded and there is pressure on various facilities such as the pool, games room etc. and we hope that this move will address all these issues.
The Outline Plan
We will convert 20 resort rooms into 4 bedded rooms, to give an extra 80 student beds with a total capacity of over 200. These 80 will be designated ‘premier’ rooms so to speak!
The 12 ‘waterside’ resort rooms will remain as they are, and with existing rooms, will provide accommodation for up to 25 teachers (more if some are prepared to share twin rooms).
The upstairs (resort) restaurant will be open to school groups and part of the upper section converted into a student social area with snack bar / café and shop.
Four resort rooms will be converted into two classrooms to give us four classrooms in total and all will be upgraded.
The current bamboo club will become a games room, thus providing two activity rooms
The gardens will be kept much as they are, but within them, we will construct more team building challenges, ropes courses etc.
We will also include extra meeting and social areas for students and additional camp fire areas.
